Roland Maiuro- Preface IX
‘Domestic
violence is now viewed as a cluster or pattern of interrelated
behaviours, which can not only impact another person’s freedom and
rights but also effect various aspects of physical health and emotional
well-being’
Whilst reading this book with concentration I found this direct quote from the books preface which summarises the effects psychological abuse which can effect the physical health and emotional health. This could be used as a good introduction to the topic of psychological abuse in my short film as it is a great definition and give a reader a good understanding of what it means to be psychologically abused.

This is a screen shot of a word search that I used to find out if there are any laws in the UK about making psychological abuse illegal, I found that there wasn’t a law against psychological abuse until august of 2014. The law states ‘those who are caused psychological harm by being threatened with violence, cut off from friends and family or refused access to money in order to limit their freedom could be protected the new law’.

This could be used a bit later in during the short film once the viewer has a better understanding of what the subject is about. It could be used as a way to show people the leisure approach that the law was taking against all types of abuse.

Reference: GOV.UK, 2013. Domestic violence and abuse - Detailed guidance
This is the cross-government definition of domestic violence and abuse that I have copy and pasted:
"Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality."
Whilst skim-reading this website I found the new definition from home office, this shows that the government was aware of domestic abuse, I could use this in my short film to show people that the government is aware and wants to stop domestic abuse and to show that all people need to be aware of domestic abuse, this could also be a good segue way to the next subject in my short film on the matter of ‘psychological abuse in both women and men’.

Reference: healthyplace.com, 2012. Emotional Abuse of Men: Men Victims of Emotional Abuse Too
Whilst searching for websites on varieties of different people who have suffered from psychological abuse I found a website which talks about psychological abuse in men as many people who have herd of psychological abuse usually associate abuse with women being abused by their male partners, but in fact almost just as many men are abused as women and the effects of the continuous abuse is just as severe.

This is a great subject matter because to inform people about psychological abuse in both men and women because it could be a fact that not many people will know, so with the goal of bring more awareness in mind this would be great to put in my short film to bring awareness to people that overlook abuse in men.

Using a phrase search I found a website called the 'National Coalition Against Domestic Violence' (ncadv) which is an organisation that is working towards eliminating Domestic violence and abuse. I could use this in my short film to give actual figures to back up the statements that have previously been given, this would give people watching a better understanding of the amount of abuse happening in today's world.

Reference: dailymail.co.uk, 2014. 'Cinderella Law' to stop emotional abuse of children: Parents who fail to show love could face prison
This is a title of a Dailymail Newspaper article that was put up onto their online website on a new law that was put in place earlier this year. To summarise what the article is saying; the law states that any parent that is emotionally abusing their child could be sent to prison for up to ten years. This shows that there are a lot of parents that neglect their children regularly.
I could use this in my short film to show that the minority of people that get emotionally abuse are children, and that it doesn't matter how old you are the people around you and people close to you can emotionally and psychologically abuse you, this could bring a great amount of awareness to people about youths being abuse at a young age.

Reference: nymag.com, 2014. Emotional Abuse Can Be As Damaging As Sexual Abuse
This is an article from the New York Magazine from their online website that I found whilst scanning the web page about the level of damage that emotional abuse can cause you in early years. This article is about the amount of damage that emotional abuse can mentally give you could result in the same amount as being sexually abused.
I could use this in my short film to show the comparison between certain types of mental and physical abuse as many people assume that if you get physically abuse in any way (such sexual abuse) it is worse than getting mentally abused (such as emotional abuse). If we show people that emotional abuse can be as harmful as sexual abuse then it could bring more awareness to people that are getting emotionally abused or have previously been emotionally abused.

This is an extract from a journal on emotional abuse. This journals main purpose is the research and review the theoretical and empirical writings on the normality of emotional abuse developing through out infancy through to adulthood. I found this particular extract whilst scanning for emotional abuse in early life, this extract highlights the key points on the early effects of emotional abuse.
I could use this in my short film to underline the severity of the effects of emotional abuse as an infant as it can have many effects on you later in life, this could be also used to increase the awareness on the development of emotional abuse through out peoples lives.

This is picture of a books index on psychological abuse in violent relationships, before reading the book I went to the the books index to search for topics or subjects on the matter of psychological abuse which I have not yet covered or at least researched, which led me to finding an interesting subject on victims of violent domestic abuse experiencing PTSD after the abusive relationship had ended, after which I underlined the passage for later reference.
I could use this in my short film to show the side of emotional and psychological that spawns for being physically abused for a prolonged period of time, for example being in a physically abusive relationship, I could use this to bring increased awareness to violently abused victims that currently suffer or have suffered from emotional or psychological because of the violent abuses they endured.

Costing/Budgeting: -
Doing research on existing products and looking at the cost of other
short film like the one I plan to make I have come up with different
costs for the necessary components to create a short film.
The
first thing I would need for my short film is a film crew, although it
doesn't need to be a big crew of people they need some sort of
experience with working on different aspects of filming, such as camera
men, the sound department and the lighting crew. Each person would be
payed on average £20 - £50 a day depending on their experience and job.
The next thing I would need are actors I wouldn't need many but I would need people with some sort of experience because no matter how good the film crew any film would fall apart without good actors to play the role. The actors would be pay an average of £50 - £100 a day depending on the amount of experience and role involvement.
Two things that aren't necessary but could improve the film are music composition and camera grading each would need a couple hundred pounds but would only be used if needed.
In total the costing could come to around £1000 at maximum if a large crew was needed or if music composition and camera grading were used.

Existing Charities and/or Products: -
Charities: -
The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)
is an organisation that regularly hold charity events and fundraisers
to raise money and awareness about domestic violence and abuse in young
children.
Here are two charities that work towards the prevention of domestic abuse, each charity has a hot line number in which you can call up and talk to people part of that charity and discuss any and all abuse problems. Both charities has a website which has the hot line number, ways in which you can donate or help/volunteer and lot of information on the multiple different types of abuse including psychological and emotional abuse.

Women's aid is an organisation that is trying to help those who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse, and to also try to influence laws involving domestic violence and abuse. they often run campaigns to raise mass awareness about the violence and abuse that is happening in today's world.

Distribution and/or Commissioning: -
Reference: surreycc.gov.uk. Raising awareness about domestic abuse DVD
Whilst searching online for other short films my teacher gave me a
handout about a short film similar to mine in that is focuses on
domestic abuse, I found that this short film was distributed regionally
through out the Surrey county.

This gave me the idea to distribute my short film nationally through out the UK, I also thought that creating an abundant amount of DVDs for handouts to the general public would cost a lot of money, so I thought that I found distribute it digitally from the Internet because this method would save money and give the option to watch the short film to any one at any given time as they know its there.
